About the AGA

The Aquatic Gardeners Association was founded in 1985 by aquatic plant enthusiasts to appeal to both beginners and experienced hobbyists alike. We publish a printed quarterly journal called The Aquatic Gardener (or TAG), the largest and only English language journal devoted to aquarium plants and planted aquaria. AGA members receive a free subscription to TAG and all special publications, and receive free access to our extensive (since 1985!) online back issue catalog and video archive of past conventions and other livestreams.

Members can purchase printed back issues, recent convention streams, and t-shirts. We even email our members a monthly newsletter called "Clippings" with events, news, links to cool stuff, and giveaways and coupons.

Since the year 2000, the AGA has also hosted a mostly bi-annual convention featuring top-notch aquatic plant speakers from all around the US and the world. This event is a great opportunity to meet hundreds of other aquatic plant enthusiasts like yourself, learn new things, attend workshops, interact with vendors, and buy & sell plants and plant-adjacent items.

We also hold a free annual online aquascaping contest, and host every entry in perpetuity since its inception in 2000 to help inspire your next creation.
